Employment Act Key Changes
(with effect from 1 April 2019)
Managers and executives ("M&Es") earning above S$4,500 per month will now be entitled to the following benefits:
- Minimum 7-14 annual leave
- Paid public holidays and sick leave
- Timely payment of salary
- Employment records (Payslips & Key Employment Terms (KETs))
- Protection against wrongful dismissal
Non-workman coverage will increase from the previous amount of S$2,500 to S$2,600; cap for hourly rate is now S$2,600 (previously was S$2,250).
Wrongful dismissal claims and salary related claims will be heard at the Tripartite Alliance for Dispute Management (“TADM”) and/or Employment Claims Tribunal (“ECT”). M&Es can seek help if they have served their employer for at least six (6) months.
Medical certificates from ALL Singapore registered doctors/dentists, and government and company appointed doctors will now be recognised. Please also take note that quarantine orders are required by law, and hospitalisation leave is to cover hospital care and period of recuperation after being discharged.
